Due to the rainy forecast for 12/14, this event has been rescheduled to Sunday, December 15.

Enjoy the peace and beauty of nature with Jessica Webb, owner of Anchor Yoga, and the Buzzards Bay Coalition during this mindfulness walk at Goldavitz Bog in Marion.

The word “mindfulness” has become part of our everyday vernacular, so what better way to practice being aware of your own moment-to-moment experience than taking a walk in nature? Join meditation teacher Jessica Webb for a guided somatic immersion for anyone seeking respite from the clamor of urban life!

A Mindfulness Walk is about becoming fully awake in the wild, in every sense of the word: aware of the touch of air on the skin, the sound of the leaves underfoot, the smell of the moist soil, the sight of the vibrant green moss. What we see, what we hear, what we smell, what we touch — it’s all part of the mindfulness experience.

To get to the parking area, turn onto Parlowtown Road from Route 6. At the cul-de-sac, turn left onto the dirt road; about half a mile down, you will see the small dirt parking lot on your right, at the southwest corner of the bog.

What can I expect?

First, we will meet at the trail head to familiarize ourselves with the map and our immediate environment. Then, we walk together at a comfortable pace, feeling free to chat and make new friends. Then, after our initial walk onto the trail, we will pause as a group for a guided somatic meditation using all of our senses. The meditation will lead us into a period of about 25 – 30 minutes of individual silent exploration. Feeling free to take a slow, deliberate pace, stopping to spend time among all the “tiny universes” you see all around you. Unlike when we walk in everyday life, we usually have a destination, some purpose or place to get to. But, not here! It’s all about the journey, the walk itself. So you might like to pause, close your eyes, stand in one spot, and just feel the experience of living… without anything else other than that.

Finally, once the gentle chime of the mindfulness bells is heard, we reconvene as a group to share in what we discovered about being awake in the wild. Then, we walk together back to the trailhead to conclude with a gentle stretch, a sweet poem, or inspirational parting words.

Human beings have been spending contemplative time in nature for millennia. But, in today’s fast-paced and over-connected world, our time in nature is becoming increasingly scarce. A guided mindfulness walk is an antidote to our busy, connected and “always-doing” life.  Enjoy a device-free walk that lets you take a break from the busy-ness of your life and the constant “doing” and letting yourself simply “be.”

All fitness levels are welcome. Please wear appropriate footwear for a walk through nature. Please note that this property is closed to hunting, however, we suggest wearing some blaze orange just as an added precaution.
