Spring Staycation at the Sawmill

Get outside and explore the outdoors during spring vacation with your friends and family!

The Coalition is offering a week’s worth of free digital outdoor exploration activity guides, listed below, for nearly all ages.

The activities are organized around The Sawmill in Acushnet, but you can do them anywhere, whether it be your own backyard, a neighborhood park, or a reserve that you find on our web tool, Discover Buzzards Bay.

To receive our free outdoor guides, register below or swing by The Sawmill on Sunday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to begin your Spring Staycation adventures. 

Signs of Spring Field Guide–It’s time to put this winter in the record books! Spring has finally arrived – snow is melting and signs of the changing season will soon begin to spring up everywhere. From sprouting ferns to the arrival of new wildlife, look out for these nine signs of spring and feel your winter woes melt away! Our activity guide is intended for older kids and adults.

Forest Find–Use our scavenger hunt guide while walking through the maple swamp and upland forest. This activity is intended for kids 4-12 years old.

Naturalist Challenge–With Spring, comes a rebirth of growth and perspective. Try out a creative writing perspective-taking routine to regenerate those creative juices. This activity is intended for older kids and adults and was created by Wareham Lands Trust.

Celebrate Earth Day–Earth Day is Thursday, April 22, and we encourage you to get outside and play Earth Day Bingo to bring awareness to the special places we love around Buzzards Bay. If you are looking for an in-person event, please register for our Saturday volunteer work day at five locations around the Bay. This activity is intended for older kids and adults.

Mindfulness–Watch this mindful walking video to help you get started and then practice mindfulness in nature with our guide. This activity is intended for all ages.
