Our Team in Action: Testing on Buttonwood Brook in Dartmouth

Testing on Buttonwood Brook

Testing on Buttonwood Brook

You think governmental permitting processes are always dry and boring? Not at all. In the past few weeks, you may have seen our Watershed Restoration Coordinator Evelyn Mortimer bundled up and canoeing out on Buttonwood Brook near where it empties into Apponagansett Bay. She’s been working beside two of our partners in the Buttonwood-to-Bay project: Nick Wildman of Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust (DNRT) and Michael Chelminski of engineering firm Stantec.

The testing they were doing on that cold March day is needed for permitting to move forward on the project to restore stream habitat. This is the second round of testing that the group has conducted; they had also been out in December 2025.
