This event happened in the past.Acushnet, MA 02743
Join us at The Sawmill to explore the sights and sounds of the Acushnet River wetlands. Bring the whole family along for a wetland exploration at 11 a.m. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting wet, and we’ll provide the waders, nets, and canoes. Pre-registration is encouraged; limited to 15 participants.
Stay afterward for a wetlands presentation by local biologist Carlos Fragata that will begin at noon in the Hawes Family Learning Center at The Sawmill. This presentation is geared toward participants ages 10 and up. It is limited to 12 people, and pre-registration is not required.
Learn about those wet areas in your neighborhood, and find out what is making all that noise every spring. This presentation, entitled “The Sights and Sounds of Wetlands and Wildlife,” covers different Massachusetts wetlands types, wetlands impacts and conservation, wetlands animal species, and the sounds they make. It provides some basics on some local Massachusetts amphibians (frogs and salamanders) that are found in some wetlands such as vernal (isolated / temporary) pools.
The Hawes Family Learning Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to the general public. Volunteer docents will be available to offer information about the history and restoration of the property. No pre-registration needed to visit the learning center.
