Summer Solstice Nature Hike
This event happened in the past.Plymouth, MA 02366
Come enjoy the start of summer with a Wednesday evening nature hike in Myles Standish State Forest. The hike will be through the center of the forest in wildlife management areas and will include a mix of trail and forest road walking through some of the lesser-used areas. The route will be moderately hilly in places, passing by some ponds and summer camps, numerous fields, and both white pine and pine barren habitats. Signs of nature will be observed along the way.
The hike will take about 2.5 hours and be approximately five miles with a relaxed pace. The hike will finish after sunset (8:23pm), so bring a headlamp or flashlight if you are uncomfortable walking in semi-darkness. During past solstice hikes, we were serenaded by some whip-poor-wills and loud choruses of tree frogs and had wonderful finishes with a magical firefly light shows. Dogs are welcome if they are leashed or kept under control.
