The Westport River is a great warm up to the paddling season: quiet, scenic, and warm(er) water. Paddle 8-12 miles in the East Branch on this trip with the Appalachian Mountain Club. Rental boats are available near launch. Expect to see lots of ospreys, ducks, and other birds. After paddling, you’ll regroup at a restaurant next to the take-out for drinks on the deck with optional dinner.

You must be able to paddle 12 miles in ~5 hours (~2.5 mph pace), with breaks. The water is protected from waves, but you might encounter wind. You need experience with wet exits and assisted rescues, so this trip is not suitable for first-time paddlers. Space is limited and registration is required by contacting the trip leader.
