This event happened in the past.Fairhaven, MA 02719
Join local New Bedford historian and expert biker John Sullivan, on a bike tour of Ned’s Point Lighthouse in Mattapoisett to Palmer’s Island Lighthouse in New Bedford and Butler Flats for a 14 or 24 mile ride.
We will ride to Mattapoisett and visit Ned’s Point Lighthouse, starting at Staples, just off the bike trail in Fairhaven, with plenty of parking. After a short visit to Ned’s Point we will return to Staples in Fairhaven with 14 miles completed. Some may want to end the ride here after scenic views of the Mattapoisett harbor, the river, and the marshes through the woods and past Shaw Farm. You can stop back at your car or continue with us to the next lighthouse onto the Phoenix Rail Trail in Fairhaven through quiet seaside neighborhoods and over a biking friendly bridge to the New Bedford historic waterfront and fishing piers. There we will continue on a shared road to the south end, where Palmer’s Lighthouse marks the start of the Covewalk or Saulnier Memorial Bike Trail. We will approach Palmer’s Lighthouse at low tide and can walk across to explore it before coming back for our casual ride back to Fairhaven.
