Join the Westport River Watershed Alliance for an informative presentation. Professor Mark Bertness, from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Brown University will share his research on salt marsh degradation. He will also discuss how the impending sea level rise will complicate the marshes’s future. Professor Bertness’ studies have focused on salt marshes, particularly from Cape Cod to Long Island Sound. His research has found a correlation between the depletion of predator species such as blue crabs and the excess numbers of purple marsh crabs, which feed on the roots of the grasses that hold the marsh together.
