Wanted: Enterprising Farmer for Tucker Road Property Ownership Opportunity

The Buzzards Bay Coalition is offering 16.3 acres of protected farmland for sale on Tucker Rd. in Dartmouth. We are seeking farmers interested in purchasing the property subject to a permanent conservation restriction that will allow continued agricultural use of the land and will limit permanent development to a single home on a 1.25 acre portion of the site. The property is near other protected conservation land, but with easy access to nearby highways and the population centers of the South Coast.

This is part of the Coalition’s strategy to conserve farmland as a key way to protect the region’s water quality and wildlife habitat.

The Coalition will rank all offers received based on the following:

  • purchase price
  • feasibility of financing
  • environmental sustainability of proposed agricultural operation/use
  • established USDA-FSA status, and
  • the likelihood of closing within a reasonable timeframe.

All interested parties must qualify as a “Qualified Farmer” or “Rancher” through the United States Department of Agriculture – Farm Service Agency (USDA-FSA) prior to closing, if farming records with FSA are not already established. The highest ranked offer will be notified by NOVEMBER 10 at which time a good faith effort will be made to negotiate and execute a Purchase and Sale (P&S) Agreement acceptable to both parties.

This is made possible with help from the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Land Easement (ALE) program.

Please note that the property is described as 682 Tucker Rd., which is an approximate street number as the property currently has no buildings on site.

If interested, please reach out to John Chester at (508) 999-6363 x 213 or chester@savebuzzardsbay.org
