The Buzzards Bay Center, located at 114 Front Street in historic downtown New Bedford, is more than just the Coalition’s headquarters. It is a learning center, a community resource, and a model for environmentally responsible design. Built in 1832, the Buzzards Bay Center was renovated in 2010 using green features that help save energy and protect our local waters.
To some, taking a walk on the beach in the middle of winter might not sound like fun. But for fourth-graders in New Bedford Public Schools, beach walks with the Coalition as part of the city’s Sea Lab program – no matter what time of year – are opening a new window to learning, exploration, and imagination on Buzzards Bay.
Imagine it: Sunlight sparkles on the water, the canvas overhead is stretched taut, saltwater sprays up and outward, and the only sound comes from the wind driving you forward across the bay.
