Why I Run: Jenny Ross
This is one in a series of stories that introduce our readership to some of the participants in our signature events. Meet one of our Falmouth Road Race Runners.
Jenny Ross is a busy woman.
She also has a deep appreciation for Buzzards Bay and its health.

She and her husband, Pat, are co-owners of Cataumet Fish Market, Sea State Raw Bars & Catering, and Monk’s Cove Oyster Farms, all based in Bourne. They are raising their son, Oscar, who is now 8. In addition, Jenny still manages to work 9 to 5 each day for New Balance, where she does concept design and trend forecasting.
On top of all this—or perhaps as a way to decompress somehow in the busy life she leads—she runs. But running has led her to do even more. The Connecticut native has run both the Boston and New York City marathons. She has also run “10, maybe 11” Falmouth Road Races. Pat, born and raised in Bourne, has run more than 20 Road Races. They have run this event together many times, but this year Jenny has decided to run for a cause: raising money for the Buzzards Bay Coalition.
She loved being in the back of the race in New York and Boston with the community of runners “with the causes on all their shirts,” she explains. “After I experienced that, I knew I had to raise money for Falmouth.”
“I chose the Coalition because I am familiar with its work and know how important clean water is,” says Jenny. Sometimes when she is on the oyster farm, she looks out over the water and thinks how lucky she is to live in such a beautifully vibrant place. The success of her multiple businesses depends on fishery health.
Her attitude on running is one anyone can appreciate. “Running doesn’t feel like work,” she says. “I get to do it. It’s my solo time,” she says, referring to her training runs throughout Bourne and Falmouth, which catch glimpses of the Buzzards Bay coast. All she needs is some tasty scenery, a cool playlist, and she’s fine.
