The Buzzards Bay Coalition recently completed the permanent protection of two properties in Westport that contain sensitive and increasingly-rare coldwater streams, which support native sea-run brook trout and other wildlife.

The Buzzards Bay Coalition and its partners completed acquisition of 68 acres on Cuttyhunk Island, permanently protecting dramatic barrier beaches, coastal marsh and upland habitats.

The Town of Marion recently took a major step forward in the effort to combat water pollution in Buzzards Bay with the adoption of regulations that will require new construction to install nitrogen-reducing septic systems. 

Water quality conditions measured in Buzzards Bay during the summer of 2019 offer a stark reminder about the impact of land development, outdated infrastructure, and climate change on the health of the Bay.

A team of researchers will be working in salt marshes around Buzzards Bay this summer to better understand the causes of salt marsh loss and develop strategies to save these essential coastal habitats.
