The Buzzards Bay Coalition is moving forward with plans to launch its full slate of signature outdoor events in 2021, promoting the protection of Buzzards Bay while adapting the activities to meet the evolving public health requirements of the pandemic.

For February vacation, the Coalition has organized a set of child-friendly activities and guides that can be used by children, adults and families. The goal is to spend time in the outdoors and discover the beauty of the Buzzards Bay region’s natural resources, while following social distancing precautions.

The Coalition has won a $75,000 grant to support testing a faster and more efficient approach to monitoring the effectiveness of nitrogen-reducing septic systems.

This year, the Baywatchers program will mark its 30th season, a feat made possible thanks to a large network of people, partner organizations and supporters of the Coalition.

In 2021, people are setting New Year's resolutions that center on celebrating nature in the thousands of acres of open space preserved for public access from Sakonnet Point and Westport to Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard and Cuttyhunk.

This year, the Buzzards Bay Coalition made significant progress on every front—ongoing pollution cleanup, focused land protection, active restoration, and community engagement—thanks to our supporters and partners, and together we will accomplish even more in 2021.

More than 50 acres of woods and wetlands that border the massive Southeastern Massachusetts BioReserve and drain toward the East Branch of the Westport River will be permanently protected from development through a partnership between the City of Fall River and the Buzzards Bay Coalition.

Jennifer Downing, a nonprofit executive with 20 years of experience in fostering positive change, has been named Vice President of Engagement for the Buzzards Bay Coalition.
