20th Buzzards Bay Ride Includes New 20-Mile Course Option

This year, the Buzzards Bay Coalition celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Watershed Ride, which has raised over $3.5 million since that first ride. For this milestone year, the Coalition is offering “20 for 20” – a 20-mile route for the first time ever to mark 20 years of the Watershed Ride.

Register today for one of the most scenic coastal rides in all of New England. Taking place on Sunday, October 4 with 100, 41, and 20-mile route options, this fully supported ride winds through farmland, villages, cityscapes, cranberry bogs, and coastal country backroads, and ends in a rollicking post-ride party in Woods Hole overlooking beautiful Buzzards Bay. Funds raised will directly support the Coalition’s work to protect and restore clean water in Buzzards Bay and its surrounding lands.

The 20-mile option was devised to give a shorter route for those not comfortable with the previously shortest 41-mile option. Riders on that route will commence from the Bourne Intermediate School on Trowbridge Road and will not have to cross the Bourne Bridge.

There’s an early bird discount for half off registration until March 20. Those wishing to sign up can go to www.savebuzzardsbay.org/ride, type EARLYBIRD as a discount code, and get 50% off registration until March 20. After March 20, the registration fee is $65. All riders must fundraise $300 towards the Coalition’s work.

The ride is a fully supported event with rest stops and lunch, mechanical support along the route, a SAG wagon, optional pre- or post-event shuttle service for you and your bike, and a celebration at the finish line. More info, including cycling routes, is posted on the Coalition Ride website (www.savebuzzardsbay.org/ride) to help registrants plan for the big day.

Those who participate in the Ride will be joining a vibrant community of fellow cyclists, making new friends, and enjoying a shared passion for the Coalition’s mission. The funds raised by the Swim, Run, and Ride have helped the Coalition carry out its important work in the preservation, restoration, and sustainable use and enjoyment of Buzzards Bay and its watershed. With a mission to enhance the health of the Bay ecosystem for all, the Coalition engages in outdoor exploration, preservation, research, and advocacy efforts, supported by more than 14,000 members.

The Coalition thanks its current sponsors Southcoast Health, Blount Clam Shack, Town Hall Dental, Jim’s Organic Coffee, The Valle Group, Cape Cod 5, Buzzards Bay Brewing, Hutker Architects, Eversource, Fiber Optic Center, Lanagan & Co., Martha’s Vineyard Bank, Stone Path Malt, Envirotech Laboratories, Eastern Bank, and Walecka Movers. The Coalition is seeking additional business sponsors and race day volunteers. Find out more by contacting Kate Reilly, Events Manager, at events@savebuzzardsbay.org.
