Adventure awaits. Bay Adventures are free activities that take place at our reserves using trails, rivers, and beaches across the watershed and include a variety of hands-on, outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, and more.
Learn the basics of geocaching as we explore the trails using GPS coordinates to find four hidden treasures along a gentle 1.5-mile loop. At each stop, kids can use their special token to trade for a surprise treasure or exchange a treasure they've already collected for something new. What will they choose to keep, and what will they trade?

In partnership with OutHounds, We'll enjoy the beautiful shoreline, follow the paved pathway toward Gooseberry Island, cross the causeway, and stop at the historic World War II watchtowers for a short break. Then we'll head back to Horseneck Beach, enjoying the scenic coastline as we make our way back in time for sunset.

Check-in at the learning center, where we'll start with a seasonal storytime. Then, we'll head on over to the trailhead to handout gear. Kids will navigate the trails, explore the ecosystems, and discover plants, animals, and mushrooms along the way. Restrooms and a water bottle refill station will be available inside the learning center. Feel free to pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic in our outdoor amphitheater after the program.

Perfect for hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and families who want to be more prepared on the trail. This is an introductory session only — it will not provide certification. If you're inspired to take the next step, the American Red Cross offers full certification courses to continue your training.

Choose between two distances through the open wetlands: a 3/4-mile loop on flat terrain or a 1.5-mile loop featuring a stone ford to walk or hop across. Both routes offer views across the wetlands, with runners visible from the starting line throughout the event.

Learn the basics of compass navigation as we follow directional bearings along the trail to find eight hidden checkpoints. At each checkpoint, kids will punch their control cards and use a new compass bearing to find their way to the next post. Follow all eight bearings to reach the final treasure box, where each child can claim a prize!

Join us for a Migratory Bird Walk at Gooseberry Island, a beautiful coastal stop along the Atlantic Flyway! Explore the shoreline and trails in search of loons, mergansers, ducks, and other migratory birds. Keep an eye out—you never know what you might spot, including a snowy owl!
