Mark Rasmussen, Buzzards Bay Coalition President and Buzzards Baykeeper®
Mark Rasmussen, President and Buzzards Baykeeper® (x201)

Mark grew up on Buzzards Bay and has dedicated his career to making the greatest possible impact on its restoration and protection. President since 1998, Mark’s path with the Coalition flows through an oyster farm, Woods Hole science missions, and positions as a staffer at the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and associate at the Stockholm International Water Institute. He is a graduate of Boston College and Harvard University. Email Mark

Brendan Annett, Vice President, Watershed Protection (x214)

Brendan oversees all of the Coalition’s land conservation and stewardship activities as well as habitat restoration projects. Brendan received his master’s in biology from the Boston University Marine Program in Woods Hole, focusing on anadromous fish. He is a former manager of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Email Brendan

Erin Ban, Outreach Assistant (x236)

Erin supports the BBC's volunteer coordination, annual events, and community outreach efforts. After spending 15 years working in New York City's theatre and event industries, she is overjoyed to return home to the Buzzards Bay area. Erin enjoys bike riding on the Cape Cod Canal, hitting the beach, and hiking local trails with her family. Email Erin

Alice Besterman, Post-Doctoral Researcher (x231)

Alice manages the Coalition's work to understand how quickly the Bay's salt marshes are eroding due to pollution and sea level rise and how this loss can be arrested through a potential solution known as "runnelling." She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. Email Alice

Joe Brennan, Water Resource Specialist

Joe manages the Coalition’s portfolio of projects across the watershed that showcase nitrogen-reducing wastewater systems, including on-site septic systems and neighborhood wastewater treatment clusters. He earned his undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and Management from the University of Rhode Island and his MBA from Bryant University. In his free time he enjoys building furniture, spending time with his friends and hiking with his 2 dogs, Millie and Wolfi. Email Joe

Doonie Brewer, Development Assistant, (x222)

A Pennsylvanian by birth, and a New Englander at heart, Doonie joins the Coalition after three decades of teaching. Her interest in conservation began on Aquidneck Island and was nourished in the Atlantic, the Pacific, and the Caribbean. She is excited about working with BBC's dedicated team, as it undertakes a wide range of projects. Her role at the Coalition is working with donors and giving initiatives in support of those projects. Doonie lives in New Bedford with her two dogs. Email Doonie

Quentin Chafee, On-The-Water Program Manager, Onset Bay Center (x228)

Quentin grew up as an avid sailor on Narragansett Bay, and he has pursued a lifestyle teaching and coaching sailing at various collegiate sailing programs and summer sailing programs. Quentin has a degree in Psychology from the University of Vermont. He hopes to use this background to help connect the community to the beautiful Buzzards Bay area and instill a passion and love for being on the water. Quentin also enjoys skiing in his free time. Jason Clermont, Watershed Restoration Coordinator (x270)

Jason helps to identify, prioritize and implement restoration of ecological habitats throughout the Buzzards Bay watershed. A New England native, Jason enjoys exploring the local coastal waterways on a paddle board, searching for surf breaks near and far, as well as biking and hiking our local trails. He received a master’s degree in biology from East Carolina University. Email Jason

Allen Decker, Esq., Director of Land Protection

Protecting the Bay’s special places is what Allen does – from working with landowners to seeking funding to coordinating closings. He received his master’s in environmental law from Vermont Law School and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina. A native South Carolinian, Allen awaits a Braves-Red Sox World Series. Mary Doucette, Land Stewardship Assistant (x217)

Mary is part of the Coalition’s land stewardship team, helping maintain conservation lands across the Watershed. She holds Bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Studies and Sociology from Eckerd College, and developed her stewardship skills over the years through volunteering, internships, and AmeriCorps. A Cape Cod native, she enjoys learning, activism, and encouraging others to get outdoors. Email Mary

Stuart Downie, Vice President, Outdoor Exploration (x227)

Stuart is a British adventurer, professional watersports instructor, and brings 16 years of outdoor adventure experience to BBC. He started his career as an instructor at the United Kingdom Sailing Academy on his native Isle of Wight directing community sailing programs for youth and adults. More recently he led outdoor youth leadership training programs in the United Arab Emirates where he met his Fairhaven-born future wife and found himself moving to the shores of Buzzards Bay. Stuart aims to embody the spirit of adventure in all parts of his life and hopes to bring this to all who he encounters. Email Stuart

Stefanie Fournier, Buzzards Bay Coalition Director of Finance
Stefanie Fournier, Vice President, Finance and Administration (x215)

Stefanie has been with the Coalition since 2000 and manages all of the organization’s finance, accounting, and administrative functions. She holds an MBA from Norwich University in Vermont and a bachelor’s in economics from McGill University in Montreal. Stefanie spent her childhood in Canada, and today lives on Cape Cod. Dan Goulart, Buttonwood to Bay Project Manager (x230)

A South Coast native with deep ties to the ocean, Dan was born and raised in New Bedford, but spent the last 30 years abroad serving as a Navy SEAL. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Health from Walden University and graduate certificates in Sustainable Cities and Communities from the Harvard Extension and Green Stormwater Management from the University of New Hampshire. He is excited to be back home managing the Buttonwood Brook and Apponagansett Bay Restoration Project. When he’s not working, Dan enjoys hiking with his family, ocean paddling, and surfing the waves of Westport and Little Compton. Email Dan

Jonah Guerin, Event Manager (x207)

Jonah manages the Coalition's annual events, including the Buzzards Bay Swim and Watershed Ride. He received his Master's in Sports Leadership from Northeastern University. Jonah has years of experience managing sporting events in Boston after spending time working in the solar industry. He enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, golfing, and cheering on Boston sports teams. Rachel Jakuba, Buzzards Bay Coalition Science Director

Rachel oversees the Coalition’s research and monitoring efforts. She joined the Coalition in 2011 after managing the Cooks River Sustainability Initiative in Sydney, Australia. Rachel received her doctorate in Oceanography from the MIT/WHOI Joint Program. She’s a native of Maryland, where she grew up enjoying the Chesapeake Bay. Email Rachel

Jeannine Jenney, Executive Assistant (x234)

Jeannine provides governance support to the President. She joined the Coalition team in 2022 following nearly 40 years in management at Shaw’s Supermarkets, the last 14 as Executive Assistant supporting the President and Vice-Presidents. When not saving the Bay, Jeannine is an avid runner and can be seen on her hometown of Dartmouth’s roads training for the next Watershed Ride. Email Jeannine

Laura Lamar, Bay Adventures Manager (x223)

Laura grew up roaming the marshes, tidal pools and beaches of Cape Cod. While pursuing her degree at Pennsylvania State University she led a club that combined outdoor adventure and service work with the goal of creating stewardship through connection to the environment. Anna handles the Coalition's day-to-day bookkeeping needs. She grew up on the island of Martha's Vineyard, and after having lived in several other corners of the world has recently settled in Fairhaven. Anna received her bachelor's degree from Bard College and she is thrilled to be a part of the important work the Coalition is doing. Email Anna

Beth McDermott, Vice President for Advancement (x202)

Beth grew up in Falmouth, and some of her favorite memories are of exploring Beebe Woods and its surrounding land. Having spent more than 25 years in educational fundraising for Boston, California, and Vermont-based institutions, she now makes her home in Dartmouth and oversees fundraising and communications for the Coalition. Beth earned her bachelor's from the University of Vermont and her master's from Emerson College. Email Beth

Korrin Petersen, Vice President, Clean Water Advocacy (x206)

Korrin leads the Coalition’s advocacy efforts in town halls, with state and federal agencies, and in the courts. Prior to joining the Coalition, Korrin served as counsel for the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. She received her J.D. and master’s in environmental law from Vermont Law School. Email Korrin

Sara manages the Coalition’s ecological restoration projects around Buzzards Bay, from The Sawmill to the Weweantic River. A New Bedford native, Sara enjoys exploring the local waters by kayak and sailing Azorean whaleboats. She received a master’s degree in environmental science from the University of Rhode Island. Britney Rogers, Office Manager (x200)

Britney is in charge of making sure all the Coalition’s facilities have what they need to run smoothly and efficiently. She is the face of the organization’s NB Headquarters and the one who is there to welcome you. Growing up locally, Britney has always loved being seaside. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UMass Dartmouth. When she's not at work you can usually find her somewhere soaking up the sun with her pups! Email Britney

Jack Sidar, Buzzards Bay Coalition Land Stewardship Manager

Jack leads the Coalition’s land stewardship program, managing land from Westport to Falmouth. A native of Maine, Jack most recently was the stewardship coordinator for The 300 Committee Land Trust in Falmouth. Jack is an avid fly fisherman who enjoys wading streams for brook trout and chasing down striped bass in Buzzards Bay. Email Jack

Jeff Smith, Boat Captain/Facilities Technician

A native of Burlington, Vermont, Jeff spent his school years growing up in Dingle County Kerry Ireland. He served over 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and commanded three operational units. Upon retirement from the USCG, Jeff served as the Harbormaster for the Town of Mashpee. He is licensed as a 100-ton Captain and has spent his entire life enjoying time on the water through recreation and work activities. Outside of work, he enjoys coaching youth baseball and basketball and spending time with his family. Email Jeff

Ian Walsh, Land Stewardship Manager

Born and raised in Minnesota, Ian spent summers as a child in Bourne where his great-great-grandfather had built a family cottage over 100 years ago. He holds a bachelor's degree in environmental science from Iowa State University and served with the Minnesota Conservation Corps and the National Park Service after college. Ian completed the National Park Service’s Ranger Academy in 2020. Prior to joining BBC’s staff he worked for the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition as Island/Field Operations Manager on the waters of Nantucket Sound. Email Ian

Angie Weldon, Center Manager, Onset Bay Center (x283)

Angie supports and develops our youth and community programs at Onset Bay Center. She earned her bachelor's degree in youth development, outside the classroom from Ithaca College. Angie brings with her a wealth of experience in summer camps, after school programming, and classroom teaching. She loves being outside as much as possible, hiking, and adventuring with her puppy sidekick, Tilly. Email Angie

Tony Williams, Director of Monitoring Programs (x203)

Since 1996, Tony has coordinated the Coalition’s citizen science monitoring programs, including the award-winning Baywatchers water quality monitoring program. When he’s not monitoring the Bay, he can often be found hiking a trail or exploring a beach with his daughter. Email Tony
