How's the Bay Doing? Results from Summer 2023 Testing Released
Results from the 2023 water quality monitoring season were released last month on our website. Monitoring data is summarized into a Bay Health Index based on a score of zero to 100. Scores reflect the state of the Bay as a habitat for fish, shellfish, and other parts of its natural ecosystem; they do not include measures of bacteria that would indicate whether water is safe for swimming or the status of shellfish beds.

Swim Registration Opens

Coalition Purchase of Agawam River Corridor To Improve Water Quality, Increase Fish Population

Westport Fishermen’s Association Merger
The Westport Fishermen’s Association (WFA) was founded in 1983 to serve as the Westport River’s grassroots advocate for clean, healthy water and marine habitats. In 2018, 35 years after it was founded, the WFA merged with the Coalition to sustain and grow its legacy of accomplishments.
Buzzards Bay Center Opens
The Buzzards Bay Center, located at 114 Front Street in historic downtown New Bedford, is more than just the Coalition’s headquarters. It is a learning center, a community resource, and a model for environmentally responsible design. Built in 1832, the Buzzards Bay Center was renovated in 2010 using green features that help save energy and protect our local waters.
