Protecting Resource Areas
Wetlands and streams provide an essential ecological function to the Bay. These resource areas act as nutrient sinks and toxic filters, naturally assimilating pollutants from the land before they enter our rivers, wetlands and coastal estuaries.
However, the Buzzards Bay watershed has lost more than 40% of its wetland coverage since pre-colonial times and has more than doubled its population, essentially adding pollutants and eliminating filters. Baykeeper® Advocacy seeks to protect those ecologically vital resource areas by passing wetland protection bylaws within municipalities and litigating wetland violations. |
