Ocean Management and Protection

Today, Buzzards Bay faces multiple conflicting uses.  It serves as a recreational boaters playground, a haven for recreational fishing, as well as the nation's largest commercial fishing port, New Bedford, on the East Coast.

Further, the Bay carries more than two billion gallons of oil annually, is a proposed site for large scale wind generation, and was recently a proposed dredge spoil dumping ground.

In addition to preventing pollution, the Buzzards Baykeeper® Advocacy program seeks to manage and protect the uses of the Bay.
