Dredging

In 2006, the Coalition successfully lobbied a bill that permanently bans dredge spoil dumping in Buzzards Bay.

The legislation, which the Coalition helped to draft, was filed in response to a state proposal to open a disposal site off of West Falmouth for dredged material from the Cape Cod Canal and other harbors around the Bay.

The Coalition objected to the proposed plan because of negative impacts it would have on the Bay's health, including possible long-term harm to sediment characteristics, water quality, and habitat for finfish and shellfish.
