NEW BEDFORD, MA—The Coalition for Buzzards Bay has been awarded the 2004 Coastal Living magazine award for "Sea and Shore Preservation". Coastal Living is a nationally-distributed magazine for people who love the coast. The magazine highlights coastal homes, communities, food, and organizations that make a true difference in protecting the coast.
The magazine states, "We initiate each new year with a tribute to those people and organizations committed to protecting the shore. Coastal Living salutes them - and the passion that drives them to preserve one of our national treasures. Their efforts will inspire you to do the same."
In a year that will be remembered for the devastating Bouchard #120 oil spill in the Bay, The Coalition was acknowledged for their hard work mobilizing volunteers and monitoring the clean-up progress as well as the organization's collaborative approach to solving environmental problems.
"It is great to be honored in a national magazine of the size, reach and focus of Coastal Living," said Mark Rasmussen, Executive Director of the Coalition for Buzzards Bay. "I am proud that people all over the country will be reading about our community and the pride we all take in working together to protect Buzzards Bay and its watershed."
Recipients of 2004 Coastal Living awards in other categories include:
Design: The Chesapeake Bay Foundation for their Philip Merrill Environmental Center in Annapolis, Maryland, a building that's been called the greenest, most environmentally-friendly building in the world.
Leadership: The Surfrider Foundation for their national programs to preserve America's beaches and coastal ecosystems.
