FAIRHAVEN, MA—The Coalition for Buzzards Bay is the recipient of an AT&T Champion of the Environment Award. This grant of $1,000 from the AT&T Foundation has been made in recognition of the efforts of Robert Ladino who organized a team of fellow AT&T employees to help out with last year's Bouchard-120 oil spill in Buzzards Bay.
Robert Ladino a manager with AT&T commented, “It makes us happy here at AT&T to be able to help out in the community. Environmental concerns are one of the issues that AT&T is involved with and we are happy to award The Coalition for Buzzards Bay for their hard work during the 2003 Bouchard Oil Spill Aftermath.”
After the oil spill on April 27, 2003, the AT&T Consumer Call Center in Fairhaven was contacted by The Coalition of Buzzard Bay and asked to assist with the beach cleanup. Robert Ladino organized the team of AT&T employee volunteers who fanned out across a number of affected beaches, cleaned over 7 miles of beach, and accumulated countless garbage bags filled with debris. In addition, the team also acted as spotters for the Coalition to report any oil that was still washing up on shore.
Mark Rasmussen, Executive Director for The Coalition for Buzzards Bay said, “We are honored to receive this award from AT&T and are privileged to work closely with local businesses who share our vision – a clean and healthy Buzzards Bay for all to enjoy.”
