CAMBRIDGE, MA—Mark Rasmussen graduated June 8 from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government with a Master in Public Administration degree. Rasmussen, Executive Director of The Coalition for Buzzards Bay, concentrated on environmental policy, organizational management and market economics while at the Kennedy School. Specifically complementing his work as an advocate for Buzzards Bay, Rasmussen also spent time researching the management structures surrounding the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay and the Black Sea as well as other regional ecosystem management efforts.

"We are proud of Mark and the entire graduating Class of 2006. It is a talented and dedicated group of professionals who are deeply committed to public service," said Kennedy School Dean David Ellwood. "We will closely follow their progress in the years ahead, and take pride in their accomplishments."

The John F. Kennedy School of Government is the graduate professional school at Harvard University dedicated to training people for excellence in government and public service. The school is engaged in three core activities: teaching graduate students; conducting major research in public policy; and training executives in federal, state and local government. The Harvard MPA program is focused on "creating nonprofit and public sector leaders that are skilled analysts, highly-competent managers, and effective advocates". The one-year program is for professionals with 7+ years of work experience in a management role.

Rasmussen has been Executive Director of The Coalition for Buzzards Bay since 1998. In his time as Director, the Coalition has grown to become the largest environmental organization in southeastern Massachusetts with 4,700 members and a full-time staff of 10 and has established itself as a leader on issues ranging from watershed land conservation to oil spill prevention.

Prior to joining the Coalition as Executive Director, Rasmussen was Regional Planner at the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program where his work focused on land use planning and conservation. He graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies and has also worked as a Guest Student at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Coalition for Buzzards Bay Board President John K. Bullard commented, "The Board is very excited about Mark's degree from Harvard. He has already proven himself to be a dynamic and effective leader and has put the Coalition in a position where we will continue to grow and expand our role as a driving force for the protection of Buzzards Bay. His degree isboth another feather in Mark's cap and that of the Coalition."
