In April 2003, the negligence of the Bouchard Transportation Company resulted in one of the worst oil spills in Buzzards Bay history. Thanks to the efforts of a network of watchdogs and The Coalition for Buzzards Bay, this same company has now been cited for allegedly breaking the very law enacted to prevent the kind of oil spill they caused three years ago...Read more here

Spring is here! What a perfect time to break out
those binoculars, head outside, and observe
waterfowl in and around the Bay. Buzzards Bay's
forests, fields, and wetlands provide vital habitat
for a wide variety of migratory and resident birds
and make our neck of the woods one of the best
birding spots in all of New England.
Best of the Bay is a periodic feature wherein Coalition staff share their favorite picks for fun things to do on and near Buzzards Bay.
Earlier this month, Secretary Stephen R. Pritchard of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs determined that the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) submitted by proponents of the Wareham Crossing retail shopping center project did not adequately and properly comply with the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act and has required the developers to prepare a Supplemental Final Environmental Impact Report. The development would be situated on a 75-acre parcel at the junction of Interstate 195 and Route 28. On March 15, at the Marion Music Hall, The Coalition for Buzzards Bay and the Marion Institute hosted a lecture (actually more of a discussion) concerning the food we eat and its impact on the local and global environment and economies. Five panelists addressed an audience of more than one hundred people all interested in making a difference in their communities at some level. We all left the event that evening better people for having attended, and hopefully a lot more conscious of the food we eat. Click [here] to read more about the lecture.
The next lecture in the Global Warming: What Can We
Do? series co-sponored by the Coalition and the
Marion Institute will take place Wednesday, April
19th at 7:00 pm at the Coalition's offices in New
Bedford.
The Coalition invites you to our 18th Annual
Meeting, Wednesday, April 19th at 6:30 pm at the
Coalition office. This brief meeting will precede
our Global Warming What Can I Do? lecture which will
begin promptly at 7:00 pm.
Much of the Coalition's work puts us at the
forefront of the region's top environmental issues.
Here are some of recent stories that mention
our efforts.
